FAQ
What does double-coated mean and why won’t we shave it?
A type of coat composed of two layers, a dense undercoat of short fluffy hairs and a top coat of longer coarse guard hairs. Examples of double-coated dogs include Huskies, Golden Retriever, Australian Shepherd, etc. The double coat provides insulation, protecting the dog from the elements (cold and heat). Shaving this type of dog may cause the coat to grow back unevenly, blotchy, or not at all in certain areas. It is not ideal for their skin, natural oils or general appearance. We value what is best for our dog clients and will not be proceeding with any shaves of double-coated breeds (unless specified for medical purposes).
Q:
A:
We strongly believe in working with our furry guests, not against them. For this reason, we reserve the right to end a grooming session should the dog show any signs of strong discomfort, anxiety, panic, or aggression. This will avoid the possibility of unnecessary trauma and will reduce the risk of injury to the dog and/or groomer.

Why doesn’t my Doodle look like the picture?
There is a wide variety of poodle mixes, such as Goldendoodles, Bernedoodles, Labradoodles and Aussiedoodles. Each one is a unique dog, with its own coat complexion and body structure. Allow our groomers to style your pup to its best overall look.

What shampoo/conditioner brand do we use?
For our salon, we have selected Beau Essentials, a local brand from Vancouver that uses natural ingredients and botanical extracts. All professional grade products are hypoallergenic, sulfate and paraben-free, no phthalates, no added artificial colouring, and with a pH balanced for dogs with sensitive skin.

Why don’t we recommend a complex makeover for elder dogs?
Some cuts require an extensive amount of time to create, consequently obliging the senior dog to be standing. As an act of kindness towards the dog, we suggest a more simple styling. He will be just as cute and twice as happy!

What are the benefits of ‘hand stripping’ ?
For wired-coated dogs such as Terriers, hand stripping is a great alternative to clipping. Overtime, clippers will fade the colour of the coat and soften its texture, losing the desired terrier look and feel. Stripping involves pulling out the dead outer coat by hand rather than shaving with clippers. This process requires a great deal of patience and attention to detail. By using the hand stripping method to remove the dead hair that clogs follicles, the health of skin is maintained, ensuring a beautiful long-lasting coat. Ask our groomers for the added service.

How to prepare for holidays and busy times of the year?
Plan ahead (roughly around October) when booking your pet for Christmas and New Year’s Eve as these periods tend to book up fast. We recommend grooming the dog’s coat slightly shorter than usual to ensure that the coat grows out nicely for the holiday photos.

How do I help my puppy grow up to be a good grooming dog?
When adopting a dog, certain breeds will require potentially 8-10 years of grooming. Teaching your puppy at an early stage to enjoy being groomed has many benefits. Not only can it greatly reduce a lifelong amount of stress or anxiety associated with a grooming visit, but it can also decrease the risks of injury of both the dog and groomer involved. You can ease your pup into good grooming habits by gently massaging its paws, a sensitive area to canines, and rewarding it with treats. Then, at random, you may introduce household objects and gently rub them against the fur, belly, and legs while rewarding the pup. You can even test out slightly noisier objects, reassuring the dog with a soft voice and treats. This will help accustom your puppy to random sounds and objects touching it and associating them to positive experiences.
